NYE Mani

I'm always down for a sparkle mani especially for New Years! Remember last year's NYE mani? This year I opted for silver sparkles on top of a pretty mauve pink:

{Essie 'Set In Stones' & OPI 'BYOBoy'}

The vertical sparkle accent is a nice change to the regular french tip. Credit to my fab roomie for getting me on the vertical sparkle train! You know I'm a big fan of the ring finger accent nail... the more sparkle the better.

Happy New Year!!

A Look Back + Thank You

“You won’t realize the distance you’ve walked until you take a look around and realize how far you’ve been.”

This quote cannot be truer for Pursuit’s look back on 2012. Like most, I am my harshest critic and I’m constantly feeling like Pursuit has not reached its peak and that there’s so much more to accomplish. While this is true (yay 2013 goals!), this year has really been a big one for Pursuit of Shoes:

248 posts, 8 videos, 3 trips to New York, stops in Dallas and Chicago…
Amazing new blogger friends…
Don’t even get me started on the number of new shoes…

THANK YOU! Thank you for coming back every day, tweeting me, liking my instagrams, commenting on my blog posts, watching my videos… forgiving me when I have post-less days… indulging in my shoe obsession. Honestly, I wish I could reach out through the screen and give you hug and kiss. I started this blog three years ago when I needed a creative outlet from my not-so-exciting job, little did I know that it would land me the job I have today (and LOVE) and open up doors to tons of incredible opportunities. Cheers to 2013!

Zara's Got Shoe Game

I feel like a broken record when I talk about my love for Zara's shoes BUT they keep cranking out the showstoppers so it's a little hard to refrain. As I was doing some post-holiday browsing I found myself on Zara's shoe page (obvi) and realized that they have really nailed three styles:

{Left to right, top to bottom: 1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6}

I'm obsessed with ALL of them! When does that ever happen? Two of my favorite things about Zara's shoes are the quality and price. Every style in the "basics" line is under $100 and they last! I've worn my Zara sandals more than I care to admit (most recently here) and they're still going strong. I'm currently hiding my wallet...

Versatile Pieces with Macy's INC {VIDEO}

The second video from our Macy’s shoot is done! In the vid we share how to take key pieces from Macy's INC line and transition them from different day to evening events. Check it out:

{don't forget to turn up the volume}

I'm such a fan of buying a few statement pieces and working them with everything in your wardrobe. Like I've said before, a shoe change always does the trick (wink wink)!

How amazing do Hallie, Tammy, and Channing look? I'm seriously missing them and NYC.

Happy Weekend!

Gifts for Me: It's All in the Details

I like to think I'm not the only one who treats herself with a little gift or two when shopping for Christmas presents. You can't tell me you don't occasionally do the "one for me, one for you" thing?! When Macy's asked me to pick out gifts for myself, my first thought was SHOES (obvi) but I think Santa may be bringing me a pair or two. Instead, I picked gifts that will infuse fun details in to my life:

{sparkle} What's the holidays with out a little sparkle?  Essie's 'Set in Stone' is the perfect silver glitter polish for all my holidays manis - check out this sparkle mani I did over the weekend. Nail polish is the gift that keeps on giving!

{bow details} I'm such a girly girl at heart so when I saw this RACHEL Rachel Roy sweater, I had to grab it! The bow details in the back are just flirty enough without being over the top and the color is very unique. Right now I'm throwing it on over a nude cami but in the Spring it can totally be worn alone for amplified flirtiness.

{embellished collar} Why go with a basic white blouse when you can turn it up a notch with an embellished collar? This Vince Camuto one is so much fun + extremely versatile. I plan to layer my new INC faux fur vest over this baby or even a cozy cashmere sweater.

Are you gifting yourself with anything this year? Do tell!

Last Minute Gift: Hot Chocolate & Bailey's Jar

I totally failed with gift guides this season  - where does the time go?! Two nights ago as I was frantically checking people off my list, I remembered a DIY gift that I pinned a few months back: hot chocolate & bailey's mason jars! They're super cute and unique, especially for co-workers or neighbors. I bought almost everything from Target and made a dozen in about 20 minutes:

 {what you need}
- mason jars
- hot chocolate powder
- marshmallows
- mini baileys or kahlua bottles (purchased at BevMo)
- raffia or ribbon

 BevMo actually had a limited supply of baileys so I opted to do a few kahlua bottle pairings. Yesterday I took them to work and they were a huge hit! Who doesn't love hot chocolate with a bit of alchy?

Happy gifting!

The Perfect Coat {Video}

I'm so excited to share the first of two videos I shot during my 24hr NYC trip! We all know that it's important to find the perfect coat and that's exactly what we did with  Macy's:

The coat I'm wearing is from Steve Madden and has a detachable faux fur collar; perfect to transition from NY back to LA.  I had such a blast shooting with Hallie, Tammy, and Channing and I love that we all have different takes on the perfect winter coat! What do you think?

Day to Night: Holiday Dress

It seems like there are more Holiday events this year than ever before and I'm constantly battling the "I need to bring a change of clothes to work" thing. Anyone else?  I recently snapped up this RACHEL Rachel Roy dress at Macy's and it appears as though my problem has been solved.

Plus, you know I always love a great day to night look:

{day}

{night}

{RACHEL Rachel Roy Dress - in cardinal // INC Fur Vest // Vince Camuto Booties // Calvin Klein Heels}

How amazing is this shift dress? I added my own belt to give it a little more shape, but either way I'm obsessed. The dress seems so basic for day until you unroll the cuff and tah dah... beaded details! Small details like beaded cuffs or embellished collars add "ummph" but are still versatile.

For the day look I threw on my new fave INC Fur Vest to dress it down and added a pair of casual booties. I could also see myself wearing a studded military vest over this. If you're not in LA and can't rock the bare leg then try patterned tights.

For night I just unrolled the cuff, took took off the vest, and did a quick shoe change. It's all about the shoe change! The second I saw these Calvin Klein heels at Macy's, I was drawn to their sexiness. Something about minimal heels just gets me every time!

Sole Sparkle {Video + More}

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to shoot a fun Holiday video with some of my fave blog ladies: Devon, Shauna, Sydne, Jacey! We gathered up a handful of cute pups and put on some sparkly Sole Society heels for Sole Sparkle:

You can snag Bridget and all the other sparkly heels seen in the video on  Sole Society

Oohh also, you all know I'm an avid Sole Society shopper so I kind of screamed when I heard their big news for 2013. Julianne Hough for Sole Society debuts in February 2013! Yes, please!

Studs + Faux Fur

My go-to travel outfit has kind of become my default casual weekend outfit. Not sure if that's a good thing but it's definitely comfy! When I grabbed this chambray shirt on a recent Macy's trip, the first words out of my sister's mouth were, "you already have a chambray shirt."  Let's get one thing straight, one can never have too many chambray shirts or pairs of leggings! Am I right or am I right?

To winterize the look I spiced it up with a cozy fur vest and close-toed studded flats:

Studs are SO hot right now and shoes are a great way to bring the detail in to your winter wardrobe. With studs the key is less is more. I would opt for only one studded accessory or piece per outfit; something that's versatile and can be paired with tons of things in your wardrobe. Brown leather flats go with everything! Besides these fun flats, I'm loving all the studded booties and heels out there right now.

This faux fur vest, with it's sweater knit back, is PERFECT for Cali weather and my petite frame. It keeps me just warm enough for our 60 degree winters and doesn't make me look like a ball of fur.  Speaking of perfection, there are no words for my love of chambray but I think that's pretty obvious!

Wax Coated

Umm... is it me or is Christmas pretty much here? Yikes, I'm not ready! Sunday I spent the day doing a little Christmas shopping and wore wax coated J. Brands that I scooped up from Macy's. I actually have them in nude (remember this post?) and knew I needed a black pair for winter. Shh... I'm kind of obsessed with them. Wax coated denim keeps things interesting without being as showy as colored or patterned styles.

Of course it wouldn't be a Holiday look without a little bit of sparkle. Talk about a comfy, chic AND festive shopping outfit:
{RACHEL Rachel Roy Top // INC Tank // J. Brand Wax Skinnies // Jessica Simpson Flats // Nine West Coat}

For big shopping trip it's all about easy flats and layering pieces + denim that allows you to move. I always wear slip-on flats when I'm planning to be within 10 ft of a mall. Let's be honest, you've got to have easy access to trying on all the shoes in the shoe departments (wink wink).

For me, wax coated denim sits right between basic blue jeans and leather pants. They're uber stylish and versatile and not as much of a commitment as leather pants.  The J. Brand Skinnies can easily be transformed into a night out look with a pair of fierce heels. Have you jumped on the wax coated train? Do tell!

Leather + Shine

You know I'm all about leather touches so when Macy's asked me to add a few pieces into my wardrobe, I instantly new it would be in the form of a jacket and pants! They're two very functional pieces that can be styled multiple ways (more bang for your buck).

{Nine West Coat // INC White Tank // Bar III Jacket // BCBGeneration Skirt & Heels}

The faux leather detail on the jacket adds just the right touch of edginess to offset the girly skirt and heels.  Just like last week's military look, I think jackets are a great way to infuse the season's hottest trends into your wardrobe. You could pair the Bar III jacket with a basic pair of denim or even throw it over a chambray shirt to get a fun mix of textures! Can we talk about the metallic patterned skirt? I'm attracted to anything that shines these days. Ugh, so obsessed with this baby for the Holidays! Speaking of details, why go for basic black heels when these gold mirrored toe ones exist?!

{more leather inspo - click images for larger view}

During our shoot last week I transitioned THE military jacket into an evening outfit with great INC pants that had faux leather tuxedo details. Like the metallic skirt, I opted for flirty pink pumps to balance out the look. Whether it's just a strip of leather or full leather leggings, you can totally dress 'em down with a chunky knit sweater and flats.

Weekend Pics: It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

For some reason it's been quite hard for me to get into the Christmas spirit. No matter how many times I listen to *NSYNC's Christmas album or Mariah Carey's All I want for Christmas, I just cannot believe it's December! However, after a quick trip to chilly (but festive) NYC and an insanely busy Holiday filled weekend, by golly I think it's hit me:

Friday night KB and I put together the photo booth props for our Holiday party! We LOVE a good photo booth.

Behind the scenes from Sole Society's Sole Sparkle video that I shot on Saturday. Can't wait to share! {wearing a fab NAVEN dress from The Stylist LA}

The candy cane heels made their first seasonal appearance on Saturday evening for our 5th Annual Holiday party.

After a Sunday spent Christmas shopping at the Americana, how could I not be in the Holiday spirit?

Hope your weekend was lovely!

Join the Ranks: Military Style

Wow, talk about a whirlwind trip to NY! I cannot wait for you to see the video we shot.

We've seen a resurgence of the Military trend over the last couple of years and it's one of my fave Fall/Winter trends. This time last year it was all about olive colored pieces, gold hardware and chunky boots and this year the trend has evolved to include camo prints and girly details. No matter which route you take, one of the easiest ways to add a military touch is with a jacket! I worked a military jacket into a few looks on Wednesday's shoot and my inner Janet Jackson totally came out:

{INC Military Blazer// INC Denim Leggings // INC Riding Boots}

How fierce is the jacket? You know I'm a jeans and tee kind of girl which is why I love this look so much. The military jacket adds the perfect touch and makes a serious statement. Look at those embellished shoulders and button details! It definitely has a femme fatale feel to it. I went very simple with black riding boots for a chic weekend look + they're uber comfy.

No matter what your style, there are so many ways to add military touches to your look. Go for an embellished jacket or a simple olive green cargo one. Try camo printed pants with a basic white tee or layer on a chambray shirt for an easy breezy outfit. What's your favorite way to incorporate the military trend in to your wardrobe?
