Let's be real, I love LOVE which obviously means I heart Valentine's Day! This year I'm all about getting creative and what better way to do that than a little DIY. Have you heard of Darby Smart? They basically create fab DIY kits that are inexpensive and cutesy - my two fave things. I received a few kits over the holidays, one from Klout and another as a gift from a friend (genius, btw) and decided over the weekend to get my DIY on:
Both the Marquee Sign and Soy Candle kits took me no longer than 30 minutes from start to finish! They look pretty good, huh?
The Marquee Sign kit came with foam board, stencils, silver sharpie, awl tool and lights. The only bummer is that the lights didn't come with batteries, so I had to go out and grab some as I was finishing the project.
What's great about this kit is that the stencils are re-usable for future projects. After stenciling the foam board, I used the awl (another bonus tool to keep) to create the holes. Thankfully the kit came with a test board because initially I poked too many holes (I was rushing) for the number of lights available.
Push the lights through, add the batteries and tah dah:
Love! The four pink candles above were also very simple to make - so simple that it kind of blows my mind how much candles at Anthropologie cost. You know what I mean?! Anywho, if you plan to make candles be prepared to have your kitchen look like a scene out of Breaking Bad.
I don't know about you but I think these DIY kits make for a pretty thoughtful and creative Valentine's Day gift for your bff, sister, or mom. Btw, use code howdydarby to get $10 off your first purchase.
