Saturday was our Wine Tasting Birthday extravaganza! Eddie and I are both February babies and we decided to celebrate with 20 of our closest friends. It was absolutely fabulous and we are so lucky to have amazing friends in our lives!

On our way home from Santa Barbara we heard the news about Whitney Houston. Seeing the sunset off the coast and listening to "I Will Always Love You", is a moment I will never forget. You will be missed Whitney!

Pursuit Secret: Fake a Pedicure

Living in Los Angeles pretty much requires a 365 day pedicure. I can't complain about our sunny days, but keeping up the toesies to wear my favorite peep-toes can be expensive and time consuming.

U by Kotex* convinced me to share one of my beauty secrets and here it is: Fake a Pedicure

It's simple and quick + then you can wear any shoes you want. Here's how:

Moisturize the entire foot, especially around the cuticle area
Cut toe nails if they are a bit too long
Add a coat of the same polish you're currently wearing (or very similar) and make sure to get at the base (new growth area)
Top with a fresh coat of clear

You know how often I post pics of my feet and now you know how I keep my toes looking fab without breaking the bank!

Did you know...

Apron Toe

An overlay on the front of the shoe with distinct edges or stitching.

Lift

One of the layers of leather which composes the heel of a shoe.

Vamp

The front center part of a shoe upper covering the toes and part of the foot.

Wedge Heel

A heel that lies flat to the ground and extends from the shank to the back of the shoe.

Red jeans have seriously transformed my closet. If I could wear them everyday, I would (I think my co-workers would look at me funny). It's also very transitional for spring.

If you follow me on instagram {@pursuitofshoes} you've seen the closer detail of my fishtail braid. I love trying different hair styles but they don't always photograph so well because of my super dark brown locks. Oh well, what can you do?

This year I have one shoe resolution:

Last year I didn't wear every pair, so why keep them around? It's going to be a challenge but a shoe purge is definitely in order.

{DIY} Photo Booth & Festive Balloon Garland

If your hosting during the holidays or NYE, here are a few fun ideas to liven up the party:

{Photo Booth Backdrop & Setup}

For our Holiday Party we wanted a photobooth because they are really fun and engaging - guests love 'em! Since we don't have that much space in our apartment we created the "booth" in front of my bedroom by covering the door with wrapping paper and used my Macbook's Photo Booth to shoot.

To Buy:

Wrapping paper or fabric
Bow or statement piece for backdrop
Props: fun headbands, construction paper & sticks, garland, etc. (2012 glasses and party blowers would be great for a NYE bash)

We set-up the computer on a bookshelf and set the Photo Booth App to take 4 images. Guests just have to press the "camera" button and the computer takes 4 pics in a row. It's hysterical and so easy!

{Balloon Garland}

Balloon garlands may be the easiest decorations ever but they have such "umph". I did a simple garland for Mr. Pursuit's dinner party and decided to spice it up for our recent party.

To Buy:

Colored balloons (the grocery store balloon/flower dept. is a good spot)
String or thread
Tinsel garland (little lights could be a good substitute)

The best part about the balloon garland is that it doesn't require helium. Just blow up the balloons, tie on the string, tape and add tinsel.

Hello Monday! I don't know about you but I am SO excited about Thanksgiving and a little mini work vaca. Time for some good food and relaxation!

This weekend was cold and rainy but we managed to make the best of it:

Friday evening Eddie and I had a fabulous night celebrating a friend's birthday.

Mr. Pursuit was in Dallas for the weekend and sent me this shoe pic he took with the guys. Adorbs!

Celebrated another friend's birthday on Saturday at Wood & Vine. It's a fab Hwood hot spot that is so un-Hollywood. Love!

Sunday we had torrential rain so I headed over to my parents' house to relax and see my siblings. We drank hot chocolate by the fire and my little sister read Christmas books. It was quite lovely.

After the rain let up we went to Nancy Silverton's new burger joint Short Order. So yum!

Dinner Party Decor & DIY

I successfully threw my very first dinner party on Saturday {I feel like such a grown-up} and had such a lovely time planning the decor and set-up. With the help of Bourbon & Bleu and Mint Love Social Club, I created a fabulous board on Pinterest to gather all of our inspirations and food ideas for Aaron's dinner.

Here are a few of our ideas that came to life:

Aaron Profile Toothpick Toppers

The oh-so creative Sarah Hearts has an amazing template for these babies

I used Fotoflexer to remove the background from a profile pic I had of Aaron and Pixlr to black out the image

Add the images to the template, print, cut and then glue to the toothpick... ta-da!

Bacon wrapped dates never looked so awesome and Aaron loved them

Mason Jar Center Pieces

Michael's Buys: Mason Jars, Raffia, Clear Beads and Floating Candles

Tie raffia bows around mason jar tops

Add beads to the bottom and fill water just below the jar lip

Top with floating candle and you have a simple and easy table decoration

Dirty Martini Bar & Apps Table

I was beyond inspired by Sunday Suppers Martini Bar for Aaron's birthday. He hearts dirty martinis so it only seemed natural to have a special cocktail section for him. Plus Dirty 30 just worked so well!

Colored denim has become a staple in my wardrobe. My office is very casual and blue denim, although the norm, can get boring day after day!

If you follow me on instagram and saw my outfit post here then you can tell I'm starting to develop a little crush on green! Enter my green Gap jeans... I paired them with my leopard flats and an open knit sweater for a casual Monday work outfit.

It was a busy busy weekend but I enjoyed every second of it! Friday night I started "In Pursuit of Shoes", Pursuit's official Tumblr page. I still need to play with the html and make it pretty but definitely check it out for yummy shoe candy.

Found the cape I've been dreaming about for FOREVER. I'm not supposed to be shopping but it was too perfect to pass up.

Not sure about you but I heart Starbucks' Holiday drinks. My fav is their Gingerbread Latte and this weekend I treated myself to the first one of the season. So yum!

Also, did some window shopping at J. Crew and officially added these Glitterati Flats to my Christmas List.

We had a rainy Sunday but when the clouds broke I spotted a rainbow. Hopefully that means good things to come!

Friday was a leopard day!

In the evening we celebrated our friend Raquel's Birthday @ the oh-so-yummy Bottega Louie.

Saturday was the SC vs. Stanford game. SC had a heartbreaking loss that ended after 3 OTs. {Tears!}

Although we were sad about the outcome of the game, we managed to rally for an evening of Halloween fun! Hello, Chiquita Banana Lady.

It's funny how the weekends always go by so fast! This weekend I went Halloween costume shopping, celebrated my Step-Dad's 50th birthday {Happy Birthday Dan!} and spent a lot of time with the boy:

Friday night a few of us went to Public School 612 for happy hour. Seriously yum!

Saturday KB and I went Halloween costume shopping on Magnolia in Burbank. If you live in LA and want to find a unique costume that won't break the bank, Burbank is the way to go.

Kim Kardashian's Wedding Shoes

Were you one of the 10.5 million viewers who tuned in to watch Kim Kardashian's Wedding Special? I caught up last night (thank you DVR) and loved every second of it.

The days leading up to her wedding, the internet was buzzing about her dress, but you know there was only one thing on my mind: "What shoes is she going to wear?!"

Kim wore three pairs of custom made Giuseppe Zanotti heels to go with her three different Vera Wang gowns. Check them out:

The first is a basic satin slingback platform, the second a closed toed satin platform with crystal heel detail and the third, a beaded slingback platform.

What do you think?

I'm not a big white satin shoe fan and kind of expected more from Kim. However, two of them are very classic and all three definitely have a great platform, which helps when you are 5'2" marrying someone who is 6'9".

If you are loving, the Giuseppe Zanotti Bridal Collection features tons of gorgeous shoes- many that have a striking resemblance to Kim's.
